Facebook and Instagram Ads for Landscapers: How to Fill Your Calendar with Big Jobs

Ciao.Marketing·30 September 2026

Landscaping is one of the few trades where Facebook and Instagram ads can outperform Google. The reason is simple: landscaping is visual, and it’s something people don’t always know they want until they see it.

Nobody wakes up and searches “paved outdoor entertaining area with built-in seating”. But a homeowner scrolling Instagram who sees a stunning before-and-after of a backyard that looks like their own? That’s the moment they think “we should do that”.

Google captures demand, Meta creates it

For most trades, Google Ads works because people are already searching. Landscaping often works the other way around. Meta ads put your best work in front of the right homeowners before they’ve even started comparing quotes. I explain the difference in more detail in my Google vs Meta ads guide.

A strong setup uses both: Meta to build desire and fill the quote pipeline, Google to catch people who search “landscapers near me” or “retaining wall builders”.

What to put in a landscaper’s ads

The creative does most of the work. What performs best:

  • Before-and-after photos and videos. A short transformation clip beats almost anything else.
  • Drone footage of finished backyards. It looks premium and shows the scale of the job.
  • A clear price signal. “Outdoor living areas from $15,000” filters out the tyre-kickers.
  • Customer reactions. A quick video of a happy homeowner is very persuasive.
  • A simple offer. “Free on-site quote this month” or “Book your design consultation”.

You don’t need a film crew. A decent phone, good light and a bit of planning on each job gets you months of ad material.

Who to target

Landscaping buyers are typically homeowners in specific suburbs, often in a certain age range and with enough equity to invest. Good targeting looks like:

  • Homeowners within your service radius
  • Interest layers such as home improvement, gardening and outdoor living
  • Lookalike audiences built from your past customers
  • Retargeting anyone who watched your video or visited your website

The retargeting piece is worth a lot. Most people don’t enquire the first time they see you. Seeing your work three or four times builds the trust that gets them to book a quote.

What does it cost?

Most landscapers I work with start between $1,000 and $2,500 a month in ad spend. With jobs commonly in the $5,000 to $50,000 range, even a small number of extra signed jobs a month changes the business. I give more detail in the budget guide for tradies.

Common mistakes

  1. Using stock photos. Your own work is your best asset. Stock images look generic and get ignored.
  2. Boosting posts instead of running proper campaigns. The “Boost” button is built for engagement, not leads.
  3. No lead tracking. Without the Meta Pixel and Conversions API set up properly, Facebook can’t learn who your best customers are.
  4. Slow follow-up. Quote requests go cold fast. A same-minute text reply makes a real difference.
